Planting day WEB

Whiteman Park is hosting our 2026 community planting day on National Tree Day!

Our annual National Tree Day plantings are a great opportunity for the local community to get involved in the revegetation and overall improvement of previously disturbed and degraded habitats in the Park, so we'd love to see everyone and their green thumbs!

Our Planting site

The Horse Swamp south site will involve planting a bushland buffer zone between Dulwich Street and the Conservation category wetland to help support the health of this important wildlife habitat.

The vegetation buffer that will be created through this regeneration project will support a range of species in the future, from the quenda and koomal (brush-tailed possums) to resident frogs and a host of bird species.

National Tree Day community plantings will continue at this habitat restoration site for up to five years.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring your own clean gloves if you’d prefer to use them and water bottle.

WHAT TO WEAR

Volunteers should wear comfortable enclosed shoes and weather appropriate clothing, including hats, long sleeve shirts, long pants and/or a rain jacket.

WHAT'S PROVIDED

Whiteman Park will provide all the tools and equipment for planting and watering, as well as drinking water for participants. We will also have hand washing facilities on site.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER?

If heavy rainfall or thunderstorms are forecast for our planting day (like what happened in 2025!) we will postpone the event until another weekend in August.  This is for everyone's comfort and safety as there is no cover at this site and lots of fencing in the area. Registered participants will be notified by email no later than 8.30am on the day of the planting.

DIRECTIONS

Park at car park 23 at Mussel Pool West and take the start of the Werillyiup Trail (blue poles), following the ‘planting’ signs to the planting site. Alternatively, you can park with care on Dulwich Street and enter via a small pedestrian gate that will be open for this planting day.

This year’s site is easily accessible for most, but, like always, takes place in the soft sands prevalent in the Park.
