Teacher Familiarisations
Whiteman Park regularly holds free familiarisation sessions for teachers.
Each session provides teachers with an overview of all the Whiteman Park education programs, an orientation of the Park facilities, free teacher resources, a ‘hands on’ preview of a selected program and afternoon tea (only for in-Park sessions).
There are two options for Teacher Familiarisation Sessions:
- A Whiteman Park staff member can come out to your school to inform teachers of the programs we have available, and to show off the fantastic resources we have for those teachers who book an excursion to the Park. These free familiarisation sessions can take as little or as much time as you like. An average session is 15-20 minutes - perfect for just before school or at the end of a staff meeting!
- Teachers can book into one of the in-Park sessions. Typically, there are two Teacher Familiarisation sessions scheduled for Term Two and Term Three, and one session scheduled for Term Four each year. The in-Park sessions are usually two hours long and occur after school, between 4pm and 6pm.
For more details, or to find out when the next in-Park session is running, contact the Education & Public Programs Officer on 9209 6000.
Teacher Preview Pass
Whiteman Park provides a free Teacher Preview Pass to enable teachers to familiarise themselves with Whiteman Park prior to their visit.
The Teacher Preview Pass gives the teacher the opportunity to explore the venue of their chosen education program, with free entry to that venue.
It also offers teachers the chance to familiarise themselves with the locations of key facilities within the Park, prior to their visit (eg. Visitor Information Centre, allocated shelter, toilets, parking and playgrounds).
Teacher Preview Passes are valid only at the venue of a
booked education program, and expire on the date of the excursion.
Teacher Preview passes can be requested from the Bookings Officer at the time of booking, or any time prior to your visit.
Aboriginal Education Workshops for Teachers
Delivered by Aboriginal presenters, these workshops aim to assist teachers with the implementation of Aboriginal education in the classroom. This interactive experience will provide teachers with a basic understanding of Aboriginal culture, as well as an array of lesson ideas. All teacher who participate in these workshops will be supplied with resources that they can use in the classroom.
Participants will be exposed to Aborignal art, music, forms of communication and dance. They will also learn about the Dreaming, hunting, bush tucker and other important aspects of Aboriginal culture.
These workshops are held periodically at Whiteman Park, from 4pm to 5:30pm and cost $18 per person (includes afternoon tea). Whole school bookings can also be made for requested dates (minimum of 20 participants).
Contact the Bookings Officer to find out when the next scheduled workshop is due to take place, or call the Education & Public Programs Officer on 9209 6000 for more details.
